The Tirzepatide Diaries: Entry One
How I Got Here
I wasn’t planning on writing about this.
Actually, I wasn’t even sure I was going to tell many people I was doing it.
But here we are.
A little over a month ago, I was at an absolute low when it came to how I felt about myself and my weight. I was frustrated. The normal things I had tried weren’t doing what they used to do, and at 52, I was beginning to realize that my body doesn’t necessarily play by the same rules it did 10 or 20 years ago.
So I started looking at something that, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen all over Facebook and TikTok:
Tirzepatide.
And let me say this right from the beginning.
I was skeptical.
I still am, to a certain extent.
I’m not writing this series to convince anybody to take it. I’m not a doctor, and this isn’t medical advice. I’m simply documenting my experience—the good, the bad, the weird, the frustrating and whatever happens along the way.
On July 21, I finally made the decision to seriously look into it.
I went through one of those telehealth companies that I’d seen advertised approximately 9,742 times on Facebook and TikTok. 😂
I researched. I questioned it. I wondered if it was legitimate. I wondered if I was making a mistake.
Basically, I did what I always do.
I overthought the hell out of it.
But I finally decided:
Let’s try it.
On July 23, I had my telehealth appointment. I was approved and purchased the plan.
Then came the waiting.
And I’ll tell you something nobody’s flashy little social-media advertisement really prepares you for: once you’ve made the decision, you want to START.
But medication doesn’t magically teleport to your front porch.
Eventually it arrived, and on July 29, 2026, I took my first dose of tirzepatide.
Starting weight: 214 lbs.
Age: 52.
Height: 5’7″.
Was I nervous?
Absolutely.
There was a part of me thinking, What in the hell am I doing?
Because despite all the success stories online, this is still medication. This is still my body. And I had no idea how my body was going to react or whether this was even going to work for me.
But I took the first dose.
And that became Day One.
Today, August 27, I’m about a month into this experiment.
Current weight: 209.8 lbs.
That’s 4.2 pounds.
Is it some gigantic dramatic transformation?
Nope.
But that’s actually one of the reasons I want to write this series.
I don’t want to document the social-media version where somebody disappears for six months and suddenly comes back 60 pounds lighter with a before-and-after picture.
I want to document the middle.
The weeks when the scale moves.
The weeks when it doesn’t.
What I eat.
How hungry I am.
How I feel.
Side effects.
The victories.
The frustrations.
And probably a few moments where I’m standing in front of the refrigerator wondering what exactly I’m supposed to eat now.
I don’t know where this journey is going yet.
I don’t know what I’ll weigh three months from now or six months from now.
And I’m still a little skeptical.
But maybe that’s exactly why I should document it.
So this is the beginning.
214 pounds. July 29, 2026.
Let’s see where this goes.
